1. Subject Material

The focus of Advanced Level 2 is to prepare students for serious competitive chess. Lessons cover:

Strategic play: understanding advantages and exploiting them.
Critical endgames: rook endings, bishop vs knight, pawn races.
Advanced tactics: using mobility and activity to create winning chances.
King safety: when to keep the king central and when to shield it.
This material transforms a student from an advanced learner into a tournamentready player.

2. Guidance

At this stage, guidance means refining independent thought. Trainers shift from heavy instruction to coaching like a second:

Helping students prepare opening repertoires.
Guiding them on time management during tournaments.
Giving feedback on psychological aspects of play (handling pressure, resilience after losses).
The goal is to give structure while allowing the student’s own style to shine.

3. Individual Development

Each student in Advanced Level 2 is unique — some lean tactical, others positional. Coaches focus on:

Building personal strengths (e.g., sharp attacking play, technical endgame precision).
Addressing weaknesses (e.g., overconfidence in attack, ignoring defensive resources)
Developing a personal opening repertoire that suits the child’s style. Individual development ensures every student enters competitions with an identity and confidence in their play

4. Help

Help at this level becomes mentorship-like support:

Tournament prep: reviewing opponents’ games and suggesting strategies.
Emotional help: teaching students how to handle losses gracefully.
Analytical help: reviewing critical positions with the student to reinforce decisionmaking skills. Instead of solving every problem, coaches equip players to solve problems themselves — the ultimate goal of Level 6.

5. Analysing a Position

In Advanced Level 2, analysis moves closer to how professionals think:

Evaluating not just material but also initiative, piece activity, pawn structure, king safety, and long-term potential.
Using structured methods: “What is the position demanding? Attack, defend, simplify, or maneuver?”
Learning objectivity: setting aside “wishful thinking” and evaluating realistically. Position analysis here lays the foundation for tournament preparation and postgame reviews.

6. Finding a Good Move

Finding a good move becomes a disciplined, repeatable process:

Generating candidate moves systematically.
Calculating tactical variations while keeping the overall strategy in mind.
Understanding transition decisions (when to trade into an endgame, when to keeppieces on).

7. The Trainer

At Advanced Level 2, the trainer becomes a competitor’s coach:
